"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.”  The second is this, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”  There is no other command greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31

As I think about Jesus’ words, I cannot help but to ask the question; how do we love God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength in the context of technology? Email being a system of communication; Twitter is a system of connecting and information; Linkedin helps me get employment; and Zoom is really the main communication during this pandemic - how do I use these in the context of loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, mind and strength while loving our neighbor as ourselves?

We do it by moving to the center.  When I say “the center” I mean the center of the cross.  Picture a cross. Picture the center place where the vertical and horizontal meet. The center is the place where our use of technology, love of God and love of neighbor all meet at the same place. Our use of technology should draw us closer to God and closer in relationship with our neighbor. I believe God calls his disciples to seek him, to love him and to engage others in a way that brings us all to the center. This center is also a place where we can dwell together as one body, building each other and the kingdom of God together. As we do this, we glorify God and allow technology to be seen as a tool for kingdom advancement and not a tool that divides and separates us.

  1. How can I use the tool of technology to bring others together?
  2. Is God calling me to use any form of technology more or less this week?
  3. Is technology getting in the way of me being fully in the center with God, with myself and my neighbor?
