“Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in
Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he
performed, they all paid close attention to what he said. For with shrieks, impure spirits came out of
many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was great joy in that city.
Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of
Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, and all the people, both high and low, gave him their
attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” They followed him because
he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery. But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the
good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and
women.” Acts 8:4-12

This passage demonstrates what happens when a believer takes Jesus’ teaching on the Great
Commission (Matt. 28:18-20) seriously. What would make Philip so bold? Why would he be so
passionate about sharing the Gospel? It seems to me that Philip really believed it! He didn’t just say he
believed and went on with his normal life. Instead, he was convicted to go and tell others. Philip’s life
must’ve changed so dramatically that he was compelled to tell everyone about it! He was even willing to
risk his life for the Gospel.

This makes me wonder… How many of us say we believe and just go on with our normal life? Has Jesus
impacted my life like Philip? Has he forgiven my sin? Has he saved me? Has he picked me up when
broken and healed my wounds when I cried out to him? Oh, yes, he has! May Jesus be forevermore
praised! How we share Christ may look differently based on who we are and our environment but one
thing remains the same – if Christ has changed our life, we’re to tell others about it. Let’s go and tell!

1. What has God done in my life? What has He done for me? Reflect on this for a moment.
2. How can I share the message of the Gospel in new and creative ways?
3. How can I demonstrate Christ’s saving power by serving others this week?
